Engineered LVPs are a new category of products combining Luxury Vinyl Flooring(LVF) with either a WPC extruded core or a SPC(Rigid Core). LVF finished products come in a tile or plank and offer striking visuals and performance attributes that often make it a preferred flooring choice to natural materials like hardwood and stone.
WPC features an expanded polymer core that is lighter in weight and provides greater comfort than SPC flooring due to its lower density. However, SPC is made with a solid polymer core which is denser and provides other benefits due to its hardness. Extruded as a core material, the thermoplastics waterproof both products and their composites ensures a rigid and dimensionally stable product. Due to their structural rigidity these products are able to be produced in wider planks than a LVF product with a PVC core.
The main advantage of either a LVF with a WPC or SPC core vs a LVF with a PVC core is two-fold. WPC or SPC LVF are waterproof and can go over most subfloors without much preparation.
Traditional vinyl floors are flexible and any uneveness in the subfloor will transfer through the surface resulting in telegraphing or pockets of air underneath the flooring maybe resulting in wrinkling later if not installed correctly. WPC or SPC products have a distinct advantage because their composite core due to its thickness and rigidity hides subfloor imperfections. It eliminates the preparation that LVF would require for use over cracks and divots in concrete or wooden subfloors.
As waterproof products they may be used in bathrooms, kitchens and basements and due to their structural rigidity are resistant to indentation making the products suitable for large open areas such as a Main Street commercial area.
The features and benefits of either a LVF flooring with a WPC composite core or SPC core are numerous. Waterproof, kid proof, and pet proof are just a few benefits of this wonderful new category of flooring. For a more detailed analysis
